God´s glory coming down

And the glory of the Lord will rise over them

This month I want us to look at God´s glory. God´s glory can be described as the "radiant character of the living God which describes GOD in His eternal love" (Festo Kivengere).

This glory of God is portrayed in the Old Testament like a consuming fire. Ex 33:18-20: Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me your glory!” And He (GOD) said, “ I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.”

But He (GOD) said, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!”

John explains this in his Gospel: “Since no one has seen God at any time…” (John 1,18a), God sent Jesus the eternal, taking the form of a human being to explain GOD and share GOD with us in order to give us life in abundance (John 1,18b): “…the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.

Hebr 2:14-15: “Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.”

Ex 33:21: "Then the LORD said, “Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand there on the rock; and I will come…."

Standing on the Rock, which is Jesus Christ (1. Cor.10:4), you will see God´s glory and beauty in the Son of GOD = Jesus-Messiah!

The heading of this devotion is called: “Father, let them see your glory”. It relates to Jesus´ prayer in John 17:24: “Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.”

The Bible says in 2. Cor.4:6: For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

The same God who created light in the universe, shines the LIGHT of the knowledge of the glory of GOD into sinners’ hearts who cry out to JESUS. How does He do this? By calling us to Himself through Jesus Christ. Jesus is the shining glory of GOD! Do you allow this glorious JESUS to shine His glory, holiness, love and care into your life? Call on Jesus! His light shines and cannot be overcome by darkness (John 1:5).

The “Word of GOD” (JESUS) explains and reveals the glory of the Father, taking on human form: Jesus-Messiah. In Jesus Christ every repenting sinner can discover the triumphant glory that Jesus gave to His disciples (John 17:22).

You and me - as followers of Christ - received this “glory of GOD”, the radiant character of GOD which is “eternal love” in Christ Jesus our Lord. Do you allow Him to be at work in your life through His Holy Spirit? Even though it is painful when the Holy Spirit exposes selfishness and deeds of the flesh, but He brings glorious healing through the wounds of Jesus and freedom, liberty and fullness of His life, in order to serve God in unity with Him and one another. This glory is radiant and cannot be contained within yourself. It offers a new perspective and relevance for this life and the life to come.

“Father, let them see your glory!”
